Privacy Policy
Skorista — Score Counter · Last updated: September 23, 2026
- There are no accounts, and we run no servers of our own. Your scores, player names and settings stay on your device.
- The app uses Google services for ads, usage statistics, crash reports, remote settings and news notifications. These are described below.
- If you choose to play online, your display name and game moves are passed to your opponent through a public relay server.
- We never sell your data.
1. Data stored on your device
Skorista saves the following locally on your phone or tablet:
- Player names, scores, match history and records (Hall of Fame, achievements, Game Night)
- App preferences such as language, visual style, sound and haptics
This data is not sent to us. If Android backup is turned on for your device, Android may include the app's data in your personal Google account backup, under Google's control, so it can be restored on a new phone. Uninstalling the app or clearing its data deletes it from the device.
2. Online multiplayer (optional)
Multiplayer only runs when you start or join a match.
- Same Wi-Fi: the two devices talk to each other directly over your local network.
- Over the internet: match messages are relayed through public MQTT servers (broker.hivemq.com and broker.emqx.io). These messages contain your chosen display name, avatar, rating and win count, and your game moves. Encrypted (TLS) connections are used whenever available. Rooms use random identifiers. We do not store these messages, and the relay operators handle them under their own policies.
- QR invites: a room QR code contains your display name, avatar and rating, so anyone who scans it can see them.
Use a nickname rather than your real name if you prefer.
3. Google services
Google AdMob (advertising)
Skorista shows ads through Google AdMob. To serve and measure ads, Google may collect your device's advertising ID, device and app information, IP address and approximate location (country or region), and how you interact with ads. Depending on your choices, ads may be personalised or non-personalised.
Firebase Analytics (usage statistics)
We use Firebase Analytics to understand how the app is used, for example which games are played and which screens are opened, and to measure ad revenue. Firebase collects an app-instance identifier, device and app information, and approximate location. We only see statistics, not who you are.
Firebase Crashlytics (crash reports)
If the app crashes, Crashlytics sends a crash report with technical details such as device model, operating system version and the state of the app at the time of the crash. This helps us fix bugs.
Firebase Remote Config and Cloud Messaging
Remote Config lets us adjust app settings, such as how often ads may appear, without an update. Cloud Messaging uses a device token to deliver occasional news and event notifications. You can turn notifications off at any time in your device's system settings.

4. Your choices
- Ad consent: in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland, the app asks for your consent before showing personalised ads. You can change that choice at any time under Settings → Ad Privacy Choices. The same option appears where US state privacy laws require it.
- Advertising ID: you can reset or delete your advertising ID in your Android settings under Google → Ads, which limits ad personalisation across apps.
- Notifications: you can turn these off in your system settings.
- Online play: it is optional. Local and pass-and-play games do not use the relay servers.
5. Permissions
- Internet: used for ads, the Google services above and online multiplayer.
- Camera: used only when you scan a room QR code. Images are not stored or sent anywhere.
- Vibration: used for haptic feedback.
6. Data sharing
We do not sell, rent or trade your information. Data is only shared with the service providers described above, so that they can provide their services to the app.
7. Data retention
Data on your device stays there until you delete it or uninstall the app. Data collected by Google services is kept according to Google's retention policies and our Firebase settings. You can ask us to delete analytics data linked to your app instance by contacting us.
8. Children's privacy
Skorista is a board game companion suitable for all ages, but it is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided personal information, please contact us and we will help remove it.
9. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with a new "Last updated" date.
